Yumeko's Rice Cooker Recipe! The Results + Giveaway

My first batch
The lovely Yumeko shared her second rice cooker recipe on her blog and her pictures made my mouth water...excessively :P So the very next day, after reading her blog post, I was determined to track down the ingredients and I actually made it~! It turned out waaay better than I hoped it to be. The food that I usually make doesn't taste great...unless they are instant noodles or anything you make in the microwave ;D

Second batch
This recipe is super easy as it only needs 6 ingredients! And you can find almost all of it in your pantry and fridge ^^ Another plus is that the cooking time is really quick (around 5-6 minutes). I just dump it all in the rice cooker, flip it once so both sides brown (crispy! Yum~!) and VOILA! Of course, it takes more time to make the dough and roll it but the final product is so good that you have to try it!

What it looks like on the inside :)
Yumeko gave us some tips which include making your own pancake mix so that the dough doesn't come out sweet and salty (a weird combination :P). I used this recipe from eHow but I modified it.  You'll need:

  • 2 cups of sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1teaspoon of salt (2 makes it very salty XD)

The dough turned out to be just like bread: it's rather fluffy =] So for all of you that can't get your hands on "Hotcake mix", don't worry, just substitute this instead. Another thing, if you have those smaller rice cookers that have a glass top (no button and the top doesn't connect to the body of the rice cooker), this recipe will still work! I hope you give it a try. It's super easy, quick, fun, but the outcome is huge!

On the other hand, Anna is holding another circle lens giveaway~ You can check it out here. It ends on September 30th, 2011 and this time, there are 3 winners! Woooo! I'm trying my luck again this time. Good luck to everyone ^^

Me2Day: Strolling Down the Streets of Hong Kong

Listening to: nothing (my grandma is alseep! ssshhh)
Mood: Happy

I've just been trying to enjoy every moment of living in Hong Kong :) It's been too long. I'm really grateful to be able to see my relatives again, because who knows how long I'll have to wait for the next opportunity~

So far I've been to Ocean Park. Hey! You are never too old for amusement/sight-seeing parks. I love being immersed in an "underwater" world; seeing jellyfish gently moving about with their seemingly harmless tentacles. They remind me of ribbon dancers! ^^

I'm well fed with lots of good food! They even have taro McFlurries here! I had many chances to do a "little" shopping and boy, have I ever been so exhausted! I shall update you all with hauls once I get back. Be warned though! There will be lots and lots of photos~

Can someone teach how to make these?

Udon!! nomnomnom

Unspoken Gluttony: Smoke's Poutinerie

This stuff is good! The price is reasonable because of the amount that you get. I have two larges here. Obviously, I shared these among friends. =P They're quite filling. The thing that I really like about Smoke's Poutinerie is that you can get really interesting flavours. They really know how to dress up a normal bowl of fries ^^ How about the Italian Deluxe Poutine (homemade meat sauce, Italian sausage, sauteed mushrooms & caramalized onions)? GAH.
*drools*
The cheese are actually curds and stringy~

Traditional Veggie Poutine
I definitely reccomend the veggie one. The gravy is much tastier: sweet and comforting.

Traditional Poutine
This one has more of a pepper-like side to it and the flavour is more "sharp" (I'm not sure how to describe it xD).

I think poutine is more of a Canadian thing =P So whenever you drop by, give it a try!
Look at the glorious cheese curds!

In the Mail: Now or Never

So I realized that although I edited the pictures of the goods I got in the mail, I totally forgot to make a post about them xD I think I have had some of the stuff either from 2010 or the very beginning of 2011...Yes, I have a great memory (to a certain extent).

A great site for Canadians samples is available. The author of this blog is none other than Justine from Productrater. Please check out her beauty blog or sample site! She updates daily and I find that she is speedier than any other site ;) Above: free Hello Kitty nail stamping plate (BornPretty, if it becomes available again, I'll be sure to update), Clairol Nice 'n Easy Foam hair dye, Chunks Ahoy! Thinsations, P&G Brand sampler (Canada & U.S.), Maybelline Fit Me foundation, Acts of Kindness (free chocolate bar), and another nail plate. The reason is because I didn't receive my first plate after 2 months. Thinking that it got lost in the mail, I contacted the person in charge (which is Jessica btw) and she was super nice and helpful and they mailed me another one. I believe their company is situated in Singapore. Their website is easy to navigate through and they have a variety of items for sale. The prices are reasonable too! I was really impressed with their kindness because I didn't expect them to mail me another one ^^

Closer look of the Fit Me sample
The idea of this sample is great! They have all the shades so anyone can find their perfect match (hopefully). They also instructions/info about the line and provided coupons.

Look at the shipping fee O_o
I won a giveaway from the wonderful Suzie! I was really interested in trying the MAC Volcanic Ash Thermal Mask. She was super sweet and generous!

I love the cute letter and stickers! I can always put post-it notes to good use. Thank you so much, hunny!

Crystal Light samples. Yum! Except I really despise the aftertaste of aspartame. This is a nice way to try new flavours.

I have one more package to post about but I have to relocate my pictures...If anyone is situated in Canada and is interested in these types of samples, be sure to follow Justine's site!

Me2Day: Weekend Workload MAX OUT!

Listening to: nothing again.. (just wanted a peaceful place to think)
Mood: Content

I hope none of you kill me but I haven't been paying any attention to the Royal Wedding :P I'm just not that into it, I guess. Kate looks stunning in her wedding dress!

This weekend is jam packed with work and I have so many things that I want to do, but I'm not sure if I'll find the time to. Like baking fruit tarts and blogging... Huge apology again! Right now, I'm still trying to recover from the exhaustion from this week. Also, my birthday is coming up in 9 days which happens to be Mother's Day. The other complication is that I'll be in New York City ^^ First in my life ever! I'm really excited (haha) to a point that I already had a nightmare about it... O_o So all you ladies out there, do you have any good reccomendations for food and shopping? Please leave me some love below~ Other than that, I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

And I'll leave you with a special something ^.^

Homemade cupcakes galore~!

Unspoken Gluttony: McDonald's Double Fillet O'Fish

This came out a while ago...I think it may have been limited edition. Don't get it. It's like dumping 5 bucks down the drain xD It's a little too heavy for my liking and I prefer the normal Fillet O'Fish. They're exactly the same it's just that you get more fish with this one.

Sweet Treats: Tim Hortons Real Fruit Smoothies

Mixed Berry
This is my favourite out of the two because it tastes less artificial. The mixed berry smoothie is more tangy and you can actually taste the melange of blackberries, blueberries and strawberries. You can also see the seeds.

Strawberry Banana

The strawberry banana smoothie taste really artificial; the banana flavour is too overpowering, making it overly sweet. I do not recommend this flavour. You can see strawberry seeds in this one too.

Weighing in at 160 calories (without yogurt), the smoothies are definitely a better alternative when you need something sweet and cool to quench your thirst during the summer. An iced cap has 310 calories and I believe they both cost $1.99CAD for a small (correct me if I'm wrong). If you're looking for actually fruit chunks or fruits being blended into a smoothie, then this isn't for you. When I bought this, I noticed that they had a slushy looking machine with clear liquid in it, and I think they just poured some fruit juice in it and mixed it with the slushy base. It still tasted good haha

I can finally feel that spring is in the air! Hooray for warm weather! Now I can drink these smoothies without the shivers ^^

Sweet Treats: Meji Baked Wheat Cracker in Chocolate

sometimes, i get rather bored so i just post on random things like food ^^

these little whip cream (look-alike) blobs are basically cocoa puffs. inside, there's a creamy filling, lighter than icing, but thicker than whip cream (a bundle of joy really). crisp thin choco buiscuits that melt in your mouth although they don't look as decadent as the cover... throw them in the fridge and you get ice cream puffs =)

i got this for $2.99CAD at an oriental market and it also comes in a white chocolate flavour ^_^

(please excuse the chipped nail polish. i was trying this revlon top speed nail polish)

Nestlé Kit Kats: Royal Milk Tea, Sakura Matcha, Sparkling Strawberry, Framboise

from top left (clockwise): royal milk tea, framboise, sparkling strawberry, sakura matcha
i'm sure i'm not the only one who's encounter all the buzz with these edible delights. to check out what all the hype was about (late to join the bandwagon. i know), i picked up a few of these during my trip to toronto. pacific mall actually. they have these stores that sell asian snacks and candies and obviously, i went gaga when i saw these. each cost about $3-$4CAD. totally worth it... although they don't last long ~_~

FOB: Busy June

through out the month of June, it was rather hectic...alas, time has come for me to post about things that I picked up :) (i know i know. its AUGUST. sssshhhh. i got lazy :P) FOB=fresh off the buy. although this isn't as 'fresh' as i want it to be

I love cute Asian snacks. Maybe it's because of the kawaii cartoons on them or their plain yumminess that i can't seem to resist. YEAH IM A FATTIE. haha i got some from Hong Kong when my relatives came over and the rest are from Toronto..Pacific Mall to be exact ^^

clockwise from top left: Edo strawberry filled marshmellows, fizzy fruit candies, blueberry candy, Hokkaido milk candy, coffee candy, plum candy...LE KITKATS: framboise (raspberry), Sparkling strwaberry, Sakura Matcha, Royal Milk Tea (im almost done these!!! i'll be posting about them soon) Green tea caramel corn, matcha chocochip mini cookies

Next stop: One's
This store sells a whole lot of cute things ><>

some cartoon towels...everyone loves a little bit of childhood

my friend's birthday was coming up so i picked up some goodies from her wishlist =]
from Bath and Body Works: sweet pea body lotion, C.O. Bigelow Ultra minty lip gloss and Pink Mint lipgloss
ALDO: rose rings that would go with any outfit or to perk things up
Zellers: SH Salon Nail Lacquer in Hidden Treasure (YEAH! i finally found it! but then i realized i had something similar to this already in my stash :S), Wet n Wild Megalast Lipsticks in Just Peachy and Think Pink

Liplicious Lip Color and Lip Scrub in Watermelon (smells delicious)

A while back, Pharmaplus had 50% off sell on all lip sticks and glosses. I picked up Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Let Me Pink, Annabelle Le Gloss Stick in Naught Nectar, and Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick in Rosey Nude. Sadly, that colour didn't look that flattering on me so I gave it to my mom.

I heard that the blush in this palette is a great dupe for Nars Orgasm Blush and it was only 10 bucks at Shoppers! It's the Rosalie palette btw. I used to be a fan of this whole saga, but after discovering that a bunch of preteens went all gaga over this, it immediately put me off -_-''

the lip gloss colours are pretty but they go on sheer (pretty, but useless). the eyeshadows are alright. although they are awfully shimmery, the colours show up and they differ from one another. the blush is just....ya know ;)

Walmart
the Revlon Just Bitten lipstain was tempting. it wasn't terribly priced either. for $8.49CAD, you get a creamy balm as well as a lasting stain. i got the passion one (juicy bright pink)

the new react 5 gum. i was merely surprised to find that the gum itself is black. the flavour didn't last as long as the colour though :( fruity, citrus, tropical melange of..oranges and mangoes?
love,
CinnaBunnie *prances off*
